The Ruins Seattle Wedding | Rasmey & Gregory

rasmey and gregory's wedding at The Ruins in Seattle was exactly the kind of day this venue was made for. moody lighting, painted murals, candlelight everywhere, and a couple who came ready to have a genuinely lit time. these two brought warmth, personality, and a whole lot of energy, while the ruins brought the drama, the atmosphere, and the vibes to match.

if you're looking for a Seattle wedding venue with real character, keep reading.

the first look & ceremony at The Ruins

the morning started at a hotel with rasmey and her bridesmaids in champagne silk robes, laughing their way through hair and makeup. while across the hall, gregory and his groomsmen were getting ready and exchanging Pokémon cards.

the couple had their first look in one of the ruins’ ivy-lined indoor hallways, fairy lights overhead, afternoon sun streaming through the old industrial windows. they shared fireball shots, and we got to take some seriously dreamy photos.

then it was time for the ceremony. rasmey walked down the aisle with her mom and grandma, and their ceremony was officiated by a close friend. every moment was just so special. and you can feel that the words actually mean something because the person saying them actually knows them.

plus, those just married vibes that followed were immaculate!

the ruins seattle wedding reception

the ruins ballroom at night is something else. long tables dripping with candlelight, the mural panels glowing behind every seat, gold chiavari chairs, sage green napkins, greenery running down the center. the in-house catering team at The Ruins is excellent and one less thing to coordinate. and the food is really delicious!

the evening was so much fun, as the couple entered the reception, making it rain. once the dancing started, it didn’t really stop. by the end of the night the floor was completely full, lights streaking in every direction, everyone enjoying the moment.

we also managed to slip outside for a moment during the evening to capture some late night photos on the street.

a special shoutout to elena leigh for helping make this day happen!

a note on low-light photography at The Ruins

i say this with a lot of love… the lighting at the ruins is gorgeous, and it is also genuinely tricky. you're dealing with candlelight, mixed light, and painted walls bouncing varied tones in every direction. it creates an atmosphere like nowhere else, but it also requires a photographer who actually knows how to work in it.

make sure you hire someone with real low-light experience for this venue (like me). the difference will show up in every single image from your wedding day.

p.s. for their day also shot video clips on my brand new fuji instax evo cinema and i am obsessed. for their day, we did a grungy, saturated 80s video look and that’s just one of the settings. i’m excited to try out more soon!

glowing testimonial from the bride

“Hi Julie, YAYYY!!! I AM OBSESSED 😍😍😍these are everything!! can't wait for the full gallery. Thank you.”

thinking about getting married at The Ruins?

with the murals, the candlelight, the staff, the catering, and more texture per square foot than anywhere else in Seattle, The Ruins is a dream for couples who want something unique and atmospheric.

and when it comes to photography, we’ve got you. the lighting here is beautiful and tricky, so make sure you hire someone who can shoot in mixed and moody light and document your day in a way that feels like you.
